Are you in need of therapy for yourself?
Ruth Lomax is a qualified, insured and very experienced Bowen Technique practitioner with the Bowen Association UK (www.bowen-technique.co.uk) since 2001, treating Horses, Dogs and People. She has been treating Julie Moss (Owner of the Canine Mind and Body Balance Centre) for a few years to help keep her posture correctly aligned, pain free and mobile. She is normally based at her home in Sowerby Bridge in West Yorkshire but on Julie’s suggestion, is now offering the Bowen Technique to dog and animal owners of Rossendale at the CMBB Centre on a Tuesday afternoon and early evening. As you can see from Ruth and Julie’s own experience, the owners need therapy too!
Who Can Benefit from Bowen Therapy?
Bowen can be used for almost all conditions in people of any age and treats the WHOLE body irrespective of a diagnosis (if there is one).
Life is never perfect at the best of times and injuries or pain can develop for numerous reasons including falls, twists, accidents, surgical interventions, occupations requiring heavy lifting or physical work, repetitive movements in a job, sitting for many hours at a desk in a less than ideal position, driving cars for many hours, injuries from fitness exercise and even just getting out of bed can have its risks if the body is not maintained to its best ability to perform. Postural issues creep up on you and suddenly, one day, something becomes really painful and stops you doing your normal routines.
Anti-inflammatory and pain killing drugs often have little effect on painful injuries for two reasons. One, the underlying cause is never addressed so the pain keeps coming back. Two, pain is the body’s way of telling you to STOP. Pain killers allow you to keep going and without the pain you can do too much and compound the injury.
The body does not always manage to heal itself correctly without therapeutic intervention. Pain creates avoidance in how we move and we begin compensating by moving in an unbalanced way setting ourselves up for further, more serious injuries down the line. Treating and maintaining our postural balance along with appropriate exercise and diet is essential for continued health.
“Just wanted to let you know that my arm is fantastic since the 2nd treatment on Tuesday. I wanted to say thank you in writing this time. When you treated my left arm I was amazed, the treatment and the service was fantastic. I recommended you to all my friends and family and I know a few of them have been just as amazed!
A few weeks ago my right arm started hurting due to a sports injury. You were the first person I thought of and sure enough, you booked me in and 2 sessions later my arm was as good as new. Many thanks Ruth, hopefully I will remain healthy and not see you again but I can assure you that if I do need any treatment for any part of my body you are the one and only person I would turn to for me or my family and friends.”

What Is Bowen Technique?
Ruth believes that the Bowen Technique is one of the most versatile and effective therapeutic treatments available today offering significant relief for many conditions. It has gained the reputation of helping conditions which have not responded to other methods and can be remarkable after just one session (dependant on presenting problem, overall history of client and age).
Bowen is gentle, does not require needles or machines to work, nor is any manipulation used. By dynamically but gently moving the skin and fascia over specific points over muscles, tendons, ligaments or nerves, Bowen can stimulate the Central Nervous System and the Autonomic Nervous System sending messages deep into the body and retrieving cellular memory to release, rebalance, reset and heal the body.
It can be very relaxing and can help emotionally as well as physically. Due to its deep acting nature it can be used to help many conditions within the body such as metabolic issues, organ and systemic function and pain in its many forms.
After taking a comprehensive case history, discussing your condition in detail and assessing your posture and the way you move, a treatment will consist of a series of gentle moves on skin or through light clothing, with you lying on a treatment couch. A session usually lasts up to an hour and frequently results in a deep sense of relaxation helping the body to recharge and balance itself.
“Having suffered back pain for many years, Ruth’s treatment was tremendous. Almost instant relief and long lasting. Many Thanks.” Mick Streater, Plasterer, Hebden Bridge.

Please Note that treatments at the Canine Mind and Body Balance Centre take place in an environment also visited by many dogs. Although we endeavor to keep the centre clean and tidy there will inevitably be a small amount of dog hair floating around in the room. If you have allergies to animals or are otherwise concerned about being in contact with pet hair or being treated in the same room as animals are then please call Ruth to discuss an alternative venue for treatment.
